Often in the Gospels, the disciples address Jesus with the title “teacher.” This is an allusion to the Old Testament image of the Messiah as the one who brings Wisdom. Surely the teaching of Jesus does qualify as wisdom, but that is not the end of the title “teacher.” On your retreat you most likely experienced Jesus as teacher. The action of the Holy Spirit opened your eyes to the way the Gospel message is meant to shape and form your decisions, your dreams, your desires. Now that is true Wisdom – when the Gospel values guide decisions and attitudes to keep them in harmony with the Kingdom of God.
As you review your retreat during the year, come back to the “Wisdom moments” and see if this spiritual learning is becoming part of your everyday life. The work of retreat is 24/7/365 – The Holy Spirit is always a present guide and one who will empower you for the works of the kingdom. Without a regular review of your retreat you may miss the invitation and challenge.
